The main focus of a medical appraisal is to support the professional and personal  development of doctors. Appraisals must be confidential and take place in a safe space to allow doctors to review their achievements, challenges and aspirations and reflect on information relating to their practice since their last appraisal. 

Participation in appraisal supports revalidation by enabling doctors to demonstrate the key professional behaviour of learning from reflection, and providing the remaining assurance to the GMC that the doctor is meeting the requirements of Good Medical Practice.

Appraisals play an important role:

1. To enable doctors to enhance the quality of their professional work by planning their professional development. 
2. To enable doctors to consider their own needs in planning their professional development.
3. To enable doctors to consider the priorities and requirements of the context in which they are working.
4. To enable doctors to demonstrate that they continue to meet the principles and values set out in Good Medical Practice

We believe that the appraisal process should be an ongoing process of support and development, not just to meet GMC requirements, but to help you develop your skills, knowledge and competencies, helping you to develop your career opportunities and ambitions.

We also believe the appraisal process should be as smooth and simple for you as possible. With this in mind, we have made the process for organising your appraisal as simple as possible and we will guide you smoothly through the process.

At Aspire Medical Appraisals, we use L2P for our appraisals. If you already have an L2P account, this can be used. Alternatively, we will set up a new L2P account for you, if you need one.  

Our medical appraisal service can be purchased either as a stand alone service or at a discounted price as part of one of our Unique Appraisal Packages.

Our Appraisal Process (simple, efficient and rapid)

• Once your booking is confirmed, we will set up your L2P appraisal portfolio and your access, within 24 hours
• You will then be able to input your supporting information into the portfolio
• Once you have completed this, Dr Balcombe will review your portfolio
• Your appraisal meeting will then take place, at a time and date convenient to you. This can be in the evenings and at weekends
• The appraisal meeting will last approximately 1 hour, via video call (you will receive a link for this in advance)
• Following your appraisal, Dr Balcombe will complete the output information and send you your certificate of appraisal and REV-12 form (if required) within 24 hours
• You will then be able to review all the information Dr Balcombe has provided
• Once you are happy with the outputs, the appraisal can then be signed off by you and Dr Balcombe

We do not need to offer fast-track services at extra charge or charge extra for appraisals out of hours or at weekends or for more rapid return of output documents. That is because, at Aspire Medical Appraisals, we offer rapid access services at your convenience and fast turnaround times, as standard for all our appraisals, for the same price.
